Auditions for AFSAANEY – Our Stories (English)/ KATHAMBAM (Tamil)
Bay Area Drama Company is holding Auditions for our upcoming original production Afsaaney (English)/ Kathambam (Tamil)- A series of original short plays based on true stories of immigrant experiences across the South Asian diaspora in the United States. From the traditional stigma around mental health, to LGBTQ issues, to the role played by race in romance and marriage, the stories explore a variety of themes relevant to the contemporary milieu. Audiences can choose between shows in English and Tamil.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 11 am onwards. Rehearsals start January 5. Performances are March 13-21, 2020 at Sunnyvale Theatre. Actors can choose to audition for English only, Tamil only or for both languages. We are looking for Female and Male actors between the ages of 18 and 60.

Prepare a monologue, not more than 2 minutes long, which exhibits movement and shows a range of emotions in the language you are choosing to audition in. Auditions and all rehearsals will be held at our studio in Belmont, CA. If you are shortlisted, you will be provided sides to the play and called back for a second round of auditions the same afternoon.
Note: Appointments are required for an audition. Walk-ins are not permitted. If you would like to audition but are unable to make it on the date specified above, please indicate that in the 'notes' section of the audition form. We will do our best to accommodate all those interested in auditioning.

Founded in 2014, Bay Area Drama Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit theatre company dedicated to meaningful theater. Our past productions have addressed social justice themes such as sexual harassment, police treatment of minorities, the rise of Islamophobia after 9/11, gender dynamics and patriarchy and inequality/class conflict.
