Swagato
Earlier this week, our friend Swagato Basumallick passed away. He was a friend of BADCo and a friend to many of us. Ever smiling and unflappable, he was an essential ingredient of our theatre. He photographed the cast shoots, tech rehearsals and performances for almost every show we have put up.
Swagato was there at the beginning when we started BADCo. He did the stage photography for Bhopal, our first ever show in December 2014. And he was there at Divided By, in December 2019, the last show before the pandemic. By then he was doing poorly, health wise, after his stroke. But his spirit was still strong. He insisted that he would be able to shoot the show, no problem. And he did.
Swagato was our undeclared official photographer. If our theatre company were a living thing, his loss would be like losing a limb. It'll heal but it won't be the same. Many of us knew him personally and it hurts that he’s gone. Taken too soon.
Rest in peace, Swagato. Om shanti. 🙏🏼
