Happy New Year and... The Cherry Orchard
It’s still February and this is our first email of the year. So a very happy new year to all of you!
New Covid cases in the County are trending down rapidly. Experts believe that this could be when the pandemic becomes endemic - like the flu - contagious, but not very harmful, especially if you are vaccinated and boosted. We fervently hope that they are right. After the last two years, the world needs a break.
BADCo put up two shows last year which were well attended, much better than we expected. This gave us the encouragement to keep at it. The pandemic also gave us some tools, like rehearsals on Zoom, which have allowed us to keep rehearsals going even while Omicron was raging.
Our next production is not to be missed. The Cherry Orchard is one of the world’s best known plays and the last play that Anton Chekhov wrote. It is a story about an aristocratic family caught in the throes of social change in the aftermath of the Russian revolution. Our adaptation takes us to rural Kerala in the 80s, when the old order of jenmis (landed aristocracy) was crumbling after land reforms by the state.
Director Sathish Sattanathan, who last directed Our Stories(Tamil), grew up in Kerala. His authentic interpretation combined with a stunning set designed by C. S. Sharat, promises to make this a memorable show. Don’t miss it!
Lastly, at this time we are maintaining the same Covid Protocol for patrons that we had last year. We will keep a close eye on County regulations and the situation on the ground. As and when things change we’ll keep you updated. Your health and safety are a top priority for us.
Tickets for The Cherry Orchard are now on sale.
Have a great year ahead!
